I’ve been lucky to speak at events like CPA Australia’s Women in Leadership, Forward Fest, and Agile Aus, and my own journey scaling a business to seven figures while embracing motherhood has been one of the most fulfilling (and challenging) experiences of my life. Nina Huchthausen (00:04.898) Hello everyone and welcome to the Makers Business Try podcast. My name is Nina. It is a really beautiful Monday morning and I am so pumped that I was like, I'm going to jump on right now and record this episode so that number one, you get to tap into my success energy for this week because drum roll, I already closed my first stockist for the week. And number two, that you get a chance to follow my success routine. Because I think it's a really good one. And a few weeks ago, I fell off the wagon and didn't follow it. And life was not as easy. Now I'm back on track and I'm smashing it. How good is that? Because to be honest, routines work. And I don't know about you, but. whenever I am pulling myself back together and setting good standards and boundaries as to how I'm going to use my time and most importantly how I'm going to maximize my time for best results so that I can spend the most of my time with my baby playing on the beach and doing fuck all and having a pina colada or just hang out at the gym or sleep or do all the beautiful things, the better, you know, but when, when, when I don't follow my routines, life gets all over the place. And when things get all over the place, it's very hard to achieve the outcome that you desire because we're not focused when life's out, of, out of control, you know? So I thought, let me share this with you because A couple of weeks ago, my mind was still all over the place after Christmas. my gosh. I had such a hard time coming back into work. And for the first week, I couldn't figure out what am I missing? What is going wrong? What's like, where's my mojo? My mojo is still in the Bahamas. It hasn't jumped back on the flight. Like what the heck? So I put pen to paper and wrote out for myself again. So what? Nina Huchthausen (02:31.992) did I do that created ease and success in my life before Christmas? And what am I doing now? What am I missing? So here is what I did this morning. but actually, before I jump into that, I just want to share with you a brief intro as to who was I talking with. So I am now part owner of a new superfood smoothie venture. So we are manufacturing and creating our own high protein superfood pouches that contains 30 grams of high quality protein, 25 vitamins and minerals, a whole bunch of fiber as well as probiotics. And this unique mix, my gosh, it's It's not just that it tastes amazing, but I'm lactose intolerant and most proteins, whether it's plant based or why just creates eczema for me or I started to bloat or I break out or like random things. Yeah, something isn't good with this product. I feel good. OK, I feel really, really good. And for me, When something makes me feel really good and I'm thriving mentally and physically and spiritually, then I want to share that with the world. And that's what this product is. So I decided apart from just leading the makers business tribe and serving as many health conscious product based business owners as they can for them to get that product to the masses, doing it myself again. It's a big venture. for those who are kind of watching me talk. can see boxes in the background. My office is a bit of a mess because it has stock in it. But that's cool. You know, it's, it's part of life, part of me giving back. And yeah, so this morning I had a quick chat with Jim Ohner, Jim that I personally go to and I've kind of been chatting with this guy for a while because Nina Huchthausen (04:57.718) I truly believe that pretty much 80 % of the people that go to that gym would love my product because they are parents like me, they are business owners, they are people that go to the gym in the morning and then go straight to work. And what happens if you do that? Well, most of the time you don't eat and then you get hangry or you grab something on the go, which is not only quite expensive, But most of the time it's not the best food, right? Because if you go to any cafe and you pick up a coffee, they either got bacon and egg rolls or they got banana bread or they got some else cakey. Yeah, it's not fueling us. It's not setting us up for success. Whereas my protein, put it in a shaker with some cold water, you shake it and god damn it. It's freaking delicious. Now, this podcast is not about my protein, but number one, My audience goes to that gym. I truly believe that. Yeah, these are all my people. I developed it for me, my people. So that's of course the most important thing to get right before you approach any stockists. You need to see people go there. And the second thing, of course, that I realized here is like, hey, my gym owner, number one, I think he like he underprices. Yes, it's very affordable for us. This is an amazing gym, really high quality equipment, and I'm paying like $17 a week. That's like Jets pricing. Well, I really appreciate it, but this gym owner has a problem, right? Like the amount of revenue that he's making off me is very limited because it's $17 a week. He doesn't offer anything else. Yet, He like keeps piling up the equipment, makes the gym better and all of that stuff. but how is he making more money? Yes, of course he can bring on more and more members over time, but that also just crowds the gym. And at some point there's your max out because people get pissed off too many people and then people leave. So there is a cap of members. But what does this guy want? And that's how you want to think before you reach out to any potential stockists. What does he want? Nina Huchthausen (07:16.395) He would love to make more money per member, right? Because he wants to, he loves making members happy with new equipment, but he also needs to get the cashflow in. So this is where my product comes in. Because the key opportunity here is for us to introduce this product to all of the members through free sampling. And because we're selling superfood smoothies as well in a trailer that I own, I can rock up on a Monday morning when they got like 40 plus members in two classes who were all hangry, hungry and ready to supercharge their week. Buy smoothies off me, try it, bolt it in, yeah, so no cost. And if members are loving it, here's what I propose to them. Let us get the members to say yes. Once they said yes, we are going to offer a new type of membership and that is not just gym but gym and your protein or your superfood protein right because to me it's superfood because that way he number one like can triple the amount of money he can make per member it's crazy because our protein retails at 60 dollars per bag which i think is very affordable Yeah, they're much more expensive proteins out there, especially at the level of quality that this product provides. the number two, so you can you can charge more for a customer on a subscription basis, because if people are loving this once a month as part of the membership, membership gets deducted for the gym membership gets deducted for the protein. That means complete revenue consistency for me. He collects the money. He lets me know once a month which members have signed up. We drop ship the protein. That is an absolute win-win situation for both of us. It creates consistency for me, creates consistency for him, and the members get their protein sorted. Plus... Nina Huchthausen (09:38.358) What we're going to do once a week now is we rock up on a Monday with our superfood trailer and sell smoothies right then and there, which continuously creates activation for my product because it wasn't just a once off, try this and then nobody knows about protein anymore. And these guys are getting an amazing service because I don't know about you, but sometimes I go to a gym. or to an activity, not for the activity, but to hang out with people after, for the snack after, for this thing that I'm looking forward to, for the additional benefit. So we're ticking a lot of boxes there, which I think is really cool. And I'm really excited about this opportunity. And ultimately, I get to tap into, I think this guy has over a thousand members on his list, right? Those are all my customers. Amazing. So that's the deal that is set up today. Now, how did I prep for it? And this is probably, this is a really important thing, I think, for anyone to remember. And I'm talking to myself here, right? I just want to make sure because I'm not here to just look at me, look at me. You know this for yourself. When you talk something out, you also internalize it because Guys, to be honest, how am going to make sure I'm not falling off the wagon? How are we all making sure we're not falling off the wagon? For me, if I talk it out and I share with people what I'm doing, I tell my brain back that neither is what you need to do, but also I'm making a commitment to you guys, right? So let's do it. So step number one. What am I wearing? My power outfit. Now, my power outfit doesn't, is not for me a branded company shirt because then I feel like a rep and I have this, you know, not everybody likes talking to a rep. Plus I know this guy. But the outfit that I chose was very, very intentional because number one, it needs to make me feel really good and confident. Yeah. Not just good. don't want to feel Nina Huchthausen (12:04.044) cozy. I want to feel I'm doing business, but I'm doing business with high energy and I'm doing business confidently. And I want to create a relationship with this person. So I chose something in my wardrobe that makes me feel confident, makes me feel good, and that looks, that makes me look like the other person. And that is sometimes a bit of a Well, I don't hear that often from people. But when we dress like the other, very often the other person likes us more because we look like them. We always seek out people that look like us versus that look completely different. Yeah. So I chose very much, he always rocks up in some cool t-shirt. So I did that too. Yeah. And then I had a very casual conversation. with him about this. Now, I had dropped off my protein prior so he could taste it because something that I always say is like, hey, in my very first conversation, I introduced myself, shared with him a little bit about my product and my passion for health and not going hangry to ultimately live a 10 out of 10 life. and want them to try it. Because only if they love it, I'd love to have a conversation with them on how we can create a win-win situation for both of us. If they don't like it, don't worry. Then I have to go back to my drawing board and get it right. And of course, I don't want to waste anyone's time. which is a really great introduction, right? Because I'm not here to sell you anything. I want to make sure you're loving it and you're truly interested and don't deal with me. Now I said that. I created that baseline upfront and he called me. was like, Nina, I'm loving it. Let's have a chat. was like, awesome. OK, cool. So got my outfit right. Now, second thing. I feel myself. Nina Huchthausen (14:17.696) I didn't do that properly my first week back, right? Because by default, I forget to eat. And I also don't always want to eat. I don't want to feel full. I don't want to feel like slowed down. But when I need to be super sharp and up my game and just want to be like, on fire, I need to have a little bit of fuel in my tank. Not to slow me down, but to kind of like fire things up a little bit more. For me, well, it's my protein. I love it. So I have that and I supercharge it more. I put some greens in it, put some MCT oil in it, some additional brain food because I want to make sure, I feel zen. I feel comfortable. I'm fueled. There's some fire burning in me, but not too much. So I sip on it a little bit, put it aside in my car. When I get ready, feel good. Invitation to you. Find what fuels you. That might not be what normally you go to breakfast is, but be strategic. Because the fuel that you put in should make you feel really confident and comfortable and up your game. Yeah. And then the third thing is before I step out of my car, I go over my script and my key points because when we want to strike a deal is us is for us to lead that conversation. The other person doesn't, the other person couldn't care less. Right now in this case, I created a bit of excitement, but still he doesn't know anything about my product. He doesn't know what I'm offering him. He doesn't know. what this could look like, right? All he did was like, yeah, it tastes nice. So I got to really substantiate why this product is a real banger for him and creates more hype for his gym, customers, his customers, his people stick around for longer. And why would his customers want to sign up for a bigger membership deal? Nina Huchthausen (16:30.184) What is in it for him? How am I going to help him achieve this? Right? And I need to be super clear. What's the magic about the product? How it works and how people can use it? And ultimately, what the deal is, right? Can't just say, you choose. I need to be clear on what is that? What does a win-win partnership look like for me? What could it look like for him? I want to be open and flexible with my options, but I need to be clear beginning to end how I'm going to lead this conversation. Yeah. And rehearsing that conversation, rehearsing that dance whilst I'm priming my brain to be like, Nina, you got to be flexible because if I walk in there and he's super stressed out and on the phone and doing things, I can't do it that way. Maybe I need to let go of the whole conversation. Or he might ask me a thousand questions that might also derail the conversation. How am I flowing with that and really leaning into it whilst getting to where I want to get to? And how am I making sure that I'm also having fun in this conversation? Because if I don't have fun and if I'm like super stiff with my script and like pretty much just blasted at him, it's also really, really hard. to create a relationship here, because that's what we're doing. We're creating a win-win business partnership, relationship for our people, because his people are my people. So I should be as equally as concerned that this is creating value, because ultimately we are both in the business of creating value. And that is the same for you. You're both in the business of creating value. You should be at this concerned about customers, the people that you are going to serve, that they're on a serve, and how you can make the relationship win-win. And if you have that clear, so that the other person can see, you care, you are here to care about me, you are here to care about my people, you are here to care about my shop, you're here to care about my business, because you, and you, you, you got a response for my problems, for my customers' problems, then you're winning. And it's very Nina Huchthausen (18:46.646) good to just rehearse that even if you've done it a thousand times because otherwise things can derail quite quickly and you might not get to your outcome because you never know what questions people ask, what energy, what mood they are in and fear and doubt and pressure can always take over. But if we have a really good game plan, we rehearse that, it's much, much easier to stick to that. Okay? So those are my three steps. Step number one, make sure I look confident, feel confident through my outfit. I feel myself, so I'm nourished and my mind and my body feels like a 10 out of 10. Number three, rehearsed my pitch, rehearsed my offer, and make sure Nina have fun with this, dance with this, and no matter the outcome, enjoy the conversation. And that's what I did. And man, it worked. And I'm like, why didn't I do this straight after Christmas? Remind myself of those three steps. So now I've shared it with you guys. I hope it was valuable. Please share with me your feedback.
